Bioenergy is sourced from an array of feedstocks and once processed through conversion technologies, it is able to deliver energy in the form or thermal (heating and cooling), electricity and liquefied transport fuels. The EU’s 2020 Strategic Energy Technology Plan envisages Europe to have at least 14% of its energy mix to be supplied from bioenergy. The International Energy Agency estimates that by 2030, over 50% of global residential energy consumption will be derived from biomass.
