Ten readers taking part in the poll will be chosen at random to attend the black-tie award dinner at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square on Friday, June 20, where the winning home will be announced by Ms Flint.

The winning architect will receive £5,000 from Mitsubishi Electric, which is putting its air/heat exchange technology into the house.

In this year's Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards, we challenged architects to design 'Tomorrow's Lifestyle Home': a standard house type with a minimum of four bedrooms that would be suitable for the Government's 15 new eco-towns. It will be built by Crest Nicholson.

From 2013 every new house must comply with 16 'lifestyle home standards', such as wider doors for wheelchairs, higher wall sockets and an accessible downstairs lavatory, and from 2016 they must also be zero-carbon.

Ms Flint paid tribute to the British housebuilding industry's attempts to meet these targets.
