Zaha's gallery scheme set to win approval, despite English Heritage's concerns Zaha Hadid finally looks set to win approval for this 3,000m2 gallery and apartment block in Hoxton Square after a four-year struggle.

The building in Shoreditch, East London, for US art dealer Kenny Schachter, could become Hadid's first permanent building to complete in England if Hackney Council rubberstamps the plans later tonight (3 December).

The much-delayed project, which has gone through 'several iterations', is expected to open its doors before Hadid's London 2012 Olympic Aquatics Centre, not due to finish until 2011.

However, although the council has recommended approval for the development, the plans have come in for heavy criticism from English Heritage (EH), which is urging a refusal.
